Exhibitions Manager & Assistant Curator
California Museum of Photography, UCR ARTSblock, Riverside, CA, USA
Kathryn Poindexter is exhibitions manager and assistant curator at California Museum of Photography at UCR ARTSblock, where she began in 2014 as curatorial assistant and project manager for UCR ARTSblock’s Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA exhibition, part of the Getty-funded initiative. Previously, she was Exhibition Coordinator at Riverside Art Museum, where she curated several exhibitions. Recent exhibitions include Still: Movement + the Body through the Lens; Jennah Ward Bentley: Teviot 10; Myth and Majesty: Photographs Picturing the American Southwest; Penelope Umbrico: Master; Mountain, Range (and Rangers); and Aaron Siskind: Pleasures and Terrors.
Poindexter is interested in viewing a range a work, from traditional approaches and subjects to the very experimental and conceptual. She particularly enjoys work that challenges the definition of photography and its parameters as a medium, whether through process, subject matter, or presentation. She is not interested in viewing work that perpetuates conceived notions of what a photograph is or should be. She can aid in helping to identify strengths and weaknesses in work, both formally and conceptually.
