Dr. Pippa Oldfield
Head of Programme
Impressions Gallery, Bradford, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom
Established in 1972 as one of the first dedicated spaces for photography in Europe, and the venue for Martin Parr’s inaugural exhibition, Impressions Gallery is a leading, publicly funded photography centre in Bradford, UK. Impressions Gallery annually stages four to five exhibitions of contemporary photography by emerging to mid-career artists, which are presented alongside complementary education and touring and publishing programmes.
Pippa Oldfield joined Impressions in 2003. As Head of Programme, she helps shape the artistic direction of the Gallery, curates exhibitions, manages new commissions, and edits publications. She regularly contributes to catalogues and journals, participates in conferences and public engagement events, and contributes to seminars and teaching, nationally and internationally. She is also Honorary Research Fellow at Durham University, UK.
Oldfield is interested in seeing critically-engaged bodies of work that are innovative and creative in theme and approach, that are timely and relevant, and that will engage, move, or challenge viewers. She is open to subject matter, but does not wish to see conventional or commercial work, particularly given that Impressions does not sell prints. She would be delighted to offer critical feedback and advice on the development and resolution of work and ideas, on editing and presentation for exhibition audiences, and to advise on professional development for photographers. If possible, she would prefer to view images as prints (work prints are fine) rather than as a digital display.
