Ricardo Viera has established a visual laboratory program with the LUAG Teaching Museum and the nationally recognized collection of Latin American Photography and Video. Viera teaches courses in Photography as Contemporary Art, Latino and Latin American Art of the Americas, Museum and Curatorial Studies, and Visual Thinking Strategies.
He has organized, curated and served as a consultant for important exhibitions nationally and internationally. Since the early 1990’s he has been a reviewer and consultant curator for FotoFest. In October 2006 he was invited to China as a portfolio reviewer for the first FotoFest Beijing, and he later went to Russia for FotoFest Moscow 2011. In the summers of 2015, 2016, and 2017, sponsored by FotoFest International and the Foundation for Culture and Society, New York, Professor Viera led a “Summer Photography in Cuba: Portfolio Review Organization and Planning and Image Edit Workshops with Conversatorios and Master Images and Art Video Presentations” in UNEAC (National Union of Cuban Writers and Artists) Provincial Centers in Santiago de Cuba, Holguin, Camaguey, Santa Clara, Matanzas, and La Habana.
Professor Viera is most interested in creative 21st century endeavors, in essence photography and video as contemporary art. He has shaped the LUAG Teaching Collection as not just a collection of images, but a collection of ideas that transcend the ordinary.
