Darren Ching is Co-Owner of Klompching Gallery in New York City. The gallery specializes in the selling and exhibition of contemporary fine art photography, represents an international roster of artists, and places artworks into numerous private, corporate and public collections.

Spanning nearly two decades, Ching’s involvement in photography includes panel presentations, the jurying of competitions, and contributions to both online and print publications. Formerly the Creative Director of Photo District News (PDN), Ching spent sixteen years establishing the design direction of the magazine, and was a perennial judge for its annual 30 Emerging Photographers issue. He has been an Adjunct Faculty member at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York, and was an External Examiner for the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) BFA Photography program. Recently, he served as a Guest Critic for the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) MFA Photography Final Projects, as well as at Parsons School of Design in New York, where he critiqued BFA Editorial Design projects. Additionally, Ching works as a freelance designer specializing in photography-based projects, and as a consultant offering advice and career strategies to all levels of photographers.

Ching is most interested in seeing exceptional bodies of work that are suitable for both exhibition and sale within the fine art photography market. He can give advice on general portfolio presentation, overall creative vision, and editing. Work should demonstrate an integrity of intent, originality of vision, and excellence in craftsmanship. Ideally, photographers should present a portfolio of actual prints as opposed to screen-based presentations or books (unless feedback on book design is sought). Ching is not interested in seeing commercial or fashion photography. Klompching Gallery can offer exhibition and representation opportunities to outstanding photographers who fit into the gallery’s curatorial programming and aesthetic sensibilities; the gallery has exhibited a number of photographers discovered at FotoFest.
