Sam Barzilay is the the Creative Director of United Photo Industries, a New York based art-presenting organization that works to promote a wider understanding of photography while increasing public access to the medium. He is also the co-founder of Photoville, a photography-centered gathering that has rapidly become among the largest and best-attended photography events in North America. Additionally, he is one of the founding producers of the T3 Photo Festival in Tokyo, Japan.
He currently serves as nominator for the prestigious Prix Pictet global award in photography and sustainability, and has served as juror, nominator, and reviewer for Les Rencontres d’Arles, Houston FotoFest, the New York Times Portfolio Reviews, the Google Photography Prize, the SilverEye Fellowship, the FotoVisura Grant, and numerous others. He regularly lectures worldwide on current trends in contemporary photography.
United Photo Industries operates a gallery focusing on contemporary photography that revolves around social documentary or conceptual themes. Mr. Barzilay would prefer not to review commercial or fashion photography, or work focusing on traditional nudes.
