MOMENTA Biennale de l’image, Montreal, Canada
Since 2016, Audrey Genois has been the Executive Director of MOMENTA Biennale de l’image (formerly Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal). She holds an MA in Museum Studies, and is very active in national and international contemporary art communities. For 15 years, she held the position of Associate Curator at Galerie de l’UQAM, where she acquired solid experience in the field. During her time in this position, she coordinated over 60 exhibitions, as well as 12 national and international touring shows. Through her involvement in the world of publishing, she has edited and coordinated the production of 40 publications on contemporary art. In 2007, she served as Assistant Curator for the exhibition David Altmejd: The Index, presented at the Venice Biennale (Canadian Pavilion).
Genois is most interested in discovering artists that have not exhibited their work in Canada, and in reviewing works that can be shown within the context of a biennale. Artists concerned with social, political and cultural issues are of special interest, as well as artists who present photography within the context of installation. Artists engaged in market-oriented practices do not interest her. She enjoys talking about the underlying intentions of projects and identifying strategies for mediation and display.
