Ou Zhihang was born in Guangzhou, China, and studied politics at South China Normal University. A television producer, anchor, and artist, he began photographing in the 1970s and achieved recognition for his fashion photography and commentary. In late 1990s, Ou turned to contemporary art and began work on his ongoing multimedia series Push-ups, which has drawn continuous attention from academics, critics, and the broader society. He was named 2009 Artist of the Year in the Fifth Lianzhou International Photography Festival and received an honorable mention in the 2010 World Press Photo Contest in the Contemporary Issues category, in addition to other awards and nominations. Ou’s photographs are exhibited in many countries.
