Marcus Lyon is a British artist whose work has been commissioned and exhibited globally. Born in 1965 and raised in rural England, Lyon studied political science at Leeds University, leadership at Harvard Business School, Boston, and performance measurement at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, Cambridge. His career began with Amnesty International, working on commissions to photograph street children in Latin America, Africa, and Asia; that work was the inspiration for his twenty-five-year exploration of the issues at the heart of globalization. He has an international reputation as a landscape and portrait artist, and has photographed notable public figures, including the last four British prime ministers and Queen Elizabeth II. His works and publications are held by significant private and public institutions, including the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.; the Saatchi Gallery, London, England; the Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois; Arts Council England; and Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His most recent work on urban expansion, Brazilian identity, mass migration, and modern dance has been shown globally. Outside the art world, Lyon is a determined social entrepreneur and an active public speaker. A TED
speaker, he currently serves on the boards of Somerset House and Leaders’ Quest.
